Outdoor Activities in County Wexford

Wexford has been a family favourite holiday destination for years. It’s a playground for outdoor activities whether you prefer to enjoy a trek in a quiet rural setting, try some exhilarating watersports, take a walk along the Wexford Coastal path or maybe do some birdwatching on Hook Head. Whatever your interest, Wexford has something for everyone!

Water Sports

Enjoy the thrills and excitement of Canadian canoeing and River Trekking at Go With The Flow River Adventures. They are based in Roscrea, Co.Tipperary but carry out river adventures of the Rivers Suir, Nore and Barrow. This is a great way to enjoy a day out with friends while still seeing the beauty of Ireland’s inland waterways.

If diving is your idea of an adventurous day out, then head to the Scuba South East Diving Centre in the pretty village of Fethard-on-Sea, not far from Hook Head – one of the most popular dive sites in Ireland due to the amount of ship wrecks located here.

Equestrian

Set in the beautiful countryside next to Camolin Forest is where you’ll find Belmount Equestrian Centre. It offers trekking and riding tutorials for all levels and ages. The centre features two floodlit outdoor arenas and a state of the art indoor arena. Visitors can also avail of local treks through the countryside – a great way of sightseeing. How about a day at the Wexford Races? This is sure to be a fantastic day out for all the family. The racing season features both flat and national hunt racing and races are held frequently between the months of March and November inclusive. The racecourse can be found on the Waterford Road about 1km from Wexford Town.

Fishing

Kilmore Quay is a quaint fishing village in the south west corner of Ireland and is one of the top destinations in Ireland for fishing. While here, why not take an angling trip on the ‘Autumn Dream’ boat at Kilmore Quay. You can avail of wreck, reef and deep sea angling as well as short evening fishing trips. Visitors can also enjoy a boat trip around the Saltee Islands or a whale and dolphin watching trip.

Golfing

For golfing why not play a round at the Wexford Golf Course, a championship 18 hole parkland golf course located in Mulgannon not far from Wexford town. The course can be found on the top of Mulgannon Hill so visitors to the course can enjoy spectacular views in all directions. After your round of golf, you can relax with a drink and some fine food at the clubhouse.
